Extroverts vs Introverts

So I’m still at university by the way, and I have now moved into a house with 2 other girls. We all get along but the way I describe it to other people is that this house is just simply halls but with a lot less people. Now when you move into a house with other people obviously there are  a lot of changes, and things that are different, and one thing is the introvert vs the extrovert. (I mean you could talk about bills and other boring adult things but nobody cares about that haha XD)

The two girls that I live with are more acquaintances than friends, which I know sounds bad, but really we didn’t hang out before, we don’t hang out now, and we have our own friends anyways so its fine we all get on. But we are all different characters and one of my house mates I’d say is just like me. Keeps herself to herself, is polite when you see her, and will otherwise leave you alone, but the other is a completely different character.

She’s extroverted, and for an introvert this can sometimes be really annoying. I mean when our internet went down just a second ago, I pulled out my lip and made a sad face, but I hear my house mate in the room next to me sighing and swearing at her computer. She is a lot more expressive and cares a lot less about what anyone thinks and in some respects that can be great. However with regards to any negative emotion this can be more of a curse.

Walking home with her the other day, instead of having a nice conversation I felt like I was being interrogated as to why I wont work at McDonalds! Now to her it was probably just another normal conversation, but to me it felt like an attack when it should have just been a simple conversation :-/ and you might be wondering why I don’t say anything to her then if I felt that way, let me remind you I’m an introvert.

Being an introvert it is harder to express how you’re feeling and I am very shy and I hate confrontation, so I was never going to do that, plus the fact that I know nothing would come of it. Anyways this makes being with her more difficult and I end up getting more and more frustrated at the tiniest little thing that she does. For example if she asks if I want to join her for coffee I’m just thinking “oh my god she knows what I’m like, that I like being left alone and she knows we don’t have anything in common, why would she do this, god I wish she’d just leave me in peace”  when really I should appreciate that I received an offer in the first place.

Being introverted has its perks though, sure it might make socialising a bit more difficult but it means you appreciate and enjoy personal space. I love having time to myself in my room doing my thing, and whereas extroverts might see that as wasting my life, I see it as a time for me to unwind and for me to enjoy my life the way I want to.  And when you’re at university and you will be inevitably spending a lot of time on your own, this is a good thing. Plus I just simply like staying in, there is nothing about going out that entices me. I don’t drink, I don’t stay up all night, I’m an early riser, and so the idea of staying out late in a place where most people are probably drunk just doesn’t appeal to me. Being warm, wearing pj’s, in bed, with chocolate and a movie sounds way more appealing in my opinion haha 🙂

At the end of the day though, everyone is a little bit of both. My house mate doesn’t go out all the time and does typically keep herself to herself, and I like to dance and sing and I am not ashamed to do that when I’m completely sober, in a club, at 2am haha :-p It’s simply about finding the balance in yourself and with others that allows there to be harmony 🙂

Hope you’re all having a great day and are feeling super festive as it is getting closer to Christmas! I am now going to open my advent calendar and then go to bed haha 🙂 Night!

12 Days of Christmas: Secret Santa Rant

It’s the Christmas edition of the rant section and today I am talking about secret Santa. Now don’t get me wrong, the concept behind secret Santa is a perfectly good one but everyone knows that it never goes that smoothly.

First of all, the people that you do secret Santa…you don’t even know them! Lets take real life examples here, most of you must have done this at work or something like that and you get that one guy, lets call him Steve, you get Steve and you have no idea who Steve is! And quite frankly you don’t want to get to know Steve!

So now you have to think of something to get Steve, you want it to be nice and get him something that he might like but the fact that you know nothing about Steve makes it pretty difficult. So you think you’ll get him something generic like a gift card right? So great that’s that sorted…oh so you thought

See with secret Santa some people think that they will get you a joke gift instead, which you don’t want and you don’t see the comedy value in! Especially as you have bothered to make at least a little bit of effort to get Steve, the person you do not know, something that maybe he’ll like and you get this rubbish!

Then you have to act grateful! Like you enjoyed the joke! Like you think the gift is great! When you don’t! And its all to keep the harmony within the place of work! There should be a rule that states that you must at least attempt to get the person something that thy will like. I mean come on, secret Santa can be stressful because you are trying to please the person you have, even if you don’t know Steve, and it just simply isn’t fair.

Not to be a Christmas grump, but secret Santa can be a great idea. It can cut down on costs which is obviously good around the Christmas period, but its also very difficult to get right and it can be an annoying when your are actually trying and others aren’t.

Huh never mind hey, we’ll all keep doing secret Santa anyways whether we enjoy the processes or not. If you have any secret Santa stories you want to share, leave them in the comments below and we can all rant about it together hahaha will be posting again tomorrow 🙂

I’m Sick :-(

This is Alice, coming to you live from sickness central where I cannot breathe.. BEING ILL SUCKS!

This is the first post going into my “Rant” category and rightfully so! Seriously? What is this body?! So to stop my cold from getting worse, you decided to block my airways so I can’t breathe?! What’s up with that?!

Don’t you guys just love it as well, when you try your hardest to be really hygienic and polite and your flatmates couldn’t give two craps?! So here in Britain, it is definitely getting colder and two of my flatmates got colds a little bit ago. Now that was expected, I don’t mind at all, in fact I felt sorry for them, but when you go into the kitchen and they aren’t covering their mouths when they cough… THAT PISSES ME OFF! Think about the other people in the flat please while you’re projecting your germs into the communal area that everyone has to be in!

Oh, and by the way sneezing sucks! What even is sneezing?! And when you can’t control it and then it just continues to happen until you have a sneezing fit for the entire day! What?! It sucks even more because it blocks your airways so you cant breathe and you start producing mucus at an alarming rate. Then you have a choice, are you going to blow your nose and cause your nose to go all red and dry, which doesn’t solve anything because more mucus will be there in five minutes just causing you to use more tissues, OR are you going to try and swallow it filling your lungs with disgusting snot and making your throat so sore that it feels like its on fire? Mmmmmmm so many great options I just don’t know which one to choose!

Do you know what’s worse? When you have to go to a lecture and you are ill. When you’re not ill and everyone else is, you cant here the lecturer over all the sniffs, coughs and sneezes, but when you’re ill and you’re in a lecture, YOU CAN’T EVEN HEAR YOUR OWN THOUGHTS! You’re too busy trying to control the runny nose that you have and trying to be as silent while blowing your nose in front of everyone, immediately letting everyone know that you’re the disgusting germ that people should stay away from -.-

And the weather here doesn’t help. It’s raining more and more these days and in Britain when it rains in the winter, it is serious freaking rain! It is literally tipping it down and you are guaranteed to be soaking wet anytime you go outside. So when you go to your local super market to get the crappy medicine THAT DOESNT DO ANYTHING you get completely soaked at the same time which isn’t going to help.

Speaking of medicine, IT SERIOUSLY DOESNT WORK! So you spend a stupid amount of money on something that first of all tastes like death, and secondly doesn’t help you at all! Medicine is basically a huge lie! Its probably just a bunch of chemicals that some guy in a lab put together randomly, stuck a label on it and called it lemsip! ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR -.-

So that’s my life at the moment, if you’re having a similar problem and you want to rant about it too leave a comment down below. We can all rant about how our first world problem colds suck together! I’m going to go now and drink some death, and pick up the tissues that have missed the bin cause I’m too lazy to leave my bed each time to go to put them in the bin properly and I have crappy aim apparently -.-
